Question

Assalaam Respected Scholar I was gifted a book by someone where reference was made to "Ahad Namah" and it says that when somebody dies you write the Ahad Namah on a piece of cloth and put it with the Kafan etc. It also made reference of the benefits to it like getting sawaabs of messengers etc. (i) I want to know the authenticity of the above if it has been referenced in any Hadith. (ii) Is the above permissible? Your reply will be highly appreciated. Jazak Allah Akhmez

Answer

Wa alaikumus salaam warahmatullahi wabarakaatuh, According to Shaami ( An authentic book in fiqh), " The Ulama-e-kiraam are not in favour of such a practice because it would be a means of messing up the names of Allah Ta'aala with the impurity of the mayyit at a later stage. However they allow it to be written on the forehead and chest of the mayyit by using merely the finger in such a way that no writings would be visible.
