Question

Aslm. What is the right view of the hanafi deobandi ulama regarding moon issues? Some people say we should follow any place where the moon has been sighted first in the world to commence and end our islamic month. Is this the right way?

Answer

Wa alaikumus salaam. A month starts and terminates by the sighting of the moon. The sighting of the moon should be established by Shar'ee evidence. A sighting established anywhere in the world on the basis of Shar'ee evidence can be considered and implemented in other places where it reaches through a reliable means. For example two reliable persons coming from a particular place give testimony of their sighting to the hilaal committee of other place, or two reliable persons could be sent officially by the hilaal committee of that place where it was sighted to give its testimony to other place.
