Wa alaikumus salaam. Conversion for the purpose of knowing the value is necessary only when one has different objects as gold, silver and commercial commodities. But if somebody has only gold in his possession, in this case only its weight will be taken into consideration not its value, even if its value maybe above the amount of nisaab. In your case there is no zakaat in the bangles because it is under the weight of nisaab of gold.
