Question

Assalaamualaikum. My husband said he set me free and pronounced talaq some days before. Does it mean im no longer his wife. If so does it mean I should observe iddah n how many days. Is it 3months. When will the iddah terminate then in december or january. If I want him to re accept me what should I do.Plz answer me quickly. Am confused. Im living in the house of my parents. Cn I ask him to take me back.

Answer

Wa alaikumus salaam. The talaaq is effective as from the time when your husband pronounced the talaaq. from that time you are already in iddat. Iddat is three complete menses (haiz). In case of pregnancy the iddat will expire with the delivery. Those who do not experience haiz because of menopause will observe it till 90 days from the day the talaaq was pronounced. In your case if your husband has given you one talaaq or two then you can resume conjugal life without the need of renewing nikah within iddat. However, after the iddat is over a fresh nikah should be done if you wish to resume.
