Question

السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ

My question is about the zakaat we give to musjids. If the musjid is registered with the Waqf Board, there's a fee which they pay the Board each year, 3% of the amount present in the bank account. When we give zakaat or donations, they credit it in their bank account and not necessarily use this money immediately.

My question is that, if i give my zakaat to the musjid and definitely part of zakaat is used to pay this 3% fee to Waqf Board, does my zakaat is valid? As zakaat is not meant to pay these expenses, right? Same applies to my donations to the musjid. Does this 3% fee contributes as a naikee ja'ariya or only 97% of my contribution?

جزاك اللهُ خيرًا

Answer

Wa alaikumus salaam warahmatullahi wabarakaatuh

It is not permissible to give Zakaat / Sadaqatul Fitr to masjid. And Masaajid are not allowed to receive such kind of money as it is not allowed to spend zakaat / Sadaqatul fitr money in the running of the masjid. This includes paying of lights, water, wages of Imaam and Muazzin etc. These should be done only and only with voluntary donations.
