Question

Assalaamu alaikum

Should my trading goods makes one whole year so that I can pay Zakaat on it, for example my Zakaat calculation day starts in the first of Ramadaan , I received two dozens of Shoes on the 28th of Shabaan in my warehouse I sold one dozen on the 29th of Shabaan, should I consider the other dozen as an asset for me to pay Zakaat on?

Answer

Wa alaikumus salaam Warahmatullahi wabarakaatuh

It is not necessary that a year elapsed on the new goods received or on the cash that you received from its sale on the 29th of Shaban, if you already possessed the amount of nisaab. In this case you will add the new merchandise to the other zakatable assets you owe and then you will have to calculate your zakaat on the whole on the 1st of Ramadan.
