Question
Assalaamu alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakaatuh
What is Jamiat's stand on an economic boycott?
Answer
Wa alaikumus salaam warahmatullaahi wabarakaatuh
If for some reasons the (Muslim) government or the Ulama issue an order that some products should be boycotted for some benefits to Islam or for the Muslims, then this order should be taken into consideration and it should be acted upon. In actual fact, such a boycott is a strategical move to weaken some communities economically in order to protect the Muslims. Thus, according to the Jamiat, this move is not only permissible but in some instances, it may be compulsory as well.
