Self-criticism - How should we think?

"I am a human being. Just as I have my  flaws, I also have good qualities. I am indebted to Allah Ta’ala for these good qualities and I am grateful to Him without underestimating/and I do not underestimate those who do not have them and without believing/I do not believe that I am on the same rank as others. I regret the shortcomings and the faults that I have and I ask Allah Ta’ala for protection. I must try my best to get rid of these shortcomings."

This is how every person must think so that there can be a change in his mind-set and his way of life, because every person is more able to correct his own shortcomings than the shortcomings of his friend. Thus, he must do an action that he is more capable of doing instead of trying to do that which is more difficult. It is by trying to do what is difficult itself that the situation is becoming more and more (all the more) difficult as we are making effort but it is not in the appropriate place. Therefore, we should do even more effort to rectify ourselves.
