The state of mind of the Sahabah-e-Kiraam (Radiyallahu Anhum)

The Sahabah-e-Kiraam (Radiyallahu Anhum) sacrificed themselves for Deen. The main thing was Aakhirah for them. They understood very well that this Dunya is temporary. That is why they were ready to sacrifice anything for the pleasure of Allah Ta’ala.

Hazrat Abdullah Bin ‘Umar (Radiyallahu Anhu) had a very beautiful slave girl who was called Marjanah whom he loved a lot. Once, he pondered over the verse that says that it is very important to spend the thing that we like the most to gain real benefit. At this point, he realised that he loved Marjanah the most among all his possession. Thus, he freed her for the pleasure of Allah Ta’ala.

At times, the beloved of a person is dearest to him than anything else. To protect his beloved, he can spend all his wealth if necessary. In certain circumstances, a person reaches a state of mind where he can sacrifice this Dunya also just so as not to be separated from his beloved. Thus, his beloved represents more than this Dunya. Therefore, it is not exaggerating if we say that Hazrat Abdullah Bin ‘Umar (Radiyallahu Anhuma) sacrificed the entire Dunya for the pleasure of Allah Ta’ala by freeing Marjanah because Marjanah was the most precious asset to him in this Dunya. It is a spirit of sacrifice that is indispensable for a perfect Imaan and the Sahabah-e-Kiraam (Radiyallahu Anhum) had that in them.
