Marrying during Iddat

Question:

Can a woman get married during her Iddat?

Reply:

A Nikah that took place during the Iddat of a woman is not valid. A woman who is in Iddat does not even have the right to speak of marriage nor does anyone has the right to send a marriage proposal to her. It is a union that does not represent more than a union of/which is not more than Zina. It is good to know that a woman who applies perfume and comes out of the house is called Zaaniyah (an adulterous woman) by Nabi (Sallallaahu Alaihi Wasallam). If this is the case of a woman who just goes out without committing immorality, then how grave will it be for a woman who keeps an unlawful contact or an illicit relationship? How much worse will it be if a woman starts to live with another man without her being totally and completely separated from her husband? In the light of the Hadith, this represents Zina and the consequence of Zina is very grave. It invokes the wrath of Allah and the Dua of that person is not accepted. This creates poverty and on the day of Qiyaamah, Allah Ta'ala will put such people in an oven which is filled with flames and embers.

Thus, a person who marries a woman who is still in Iddat will always remain in Haraam and the Nikaah will not be valid.
