As-Sami'

As-Sami’ means the one who hears everything. There is no one who can hear everything except Allah Ta'ala. Thus, it is solely Allah Ta'ala who is As-Sami'. Allah Ta'ala hears whatever we say softly as well as loudly. Allah Ta'ala hears the steps of an ant even if it may be inside a rock which is buried under the ground.

"...Whenever there is a secret meeting of three, He (Allah Ta'ala) is the fourth. When there are five, He is the sixth and whenever there are less or more, He (Allah Ta'ala) is with them wherever they may be. Then on the day of Qiyaamah, He (Allah Ta'ala) will inform them of what they did. Certainly Allah has knowledge of everything." (58: 7)

There is no difference between far and near for Allah Ta'ala. There is no problem of network for Allah Ta'ala either. Not only does He hear whatever we say, but He knows whatever we are thinking in our heart. Thus, it is not necessary to pronounce anything when we ask Allah Ta'ala. We can ask him from our heart also.

"Call your Lord in humility and in secrecy..." (S7/V55)

We can communicate with our Rabb anywhere, anytime and in any season. We do not disturb our Rabb when we invoke Him. Our Rabb is at our disposal 24/7 to listen to us and solve our problems.

"And when My servants ask you about Me, (then tell them that) I am near (to them). I answer the call of the caller when he calls ..." (S2:V186)

Conviction in the attribute of As-Sami’ leads a person to think carefully before speaking. In this way, he protects himself against serious harm caused by the tongue. At the same time, the person thinks of Allah Ta'ala wherever he is and he asks Allah Ta'ala whatever he needs. This creates a confidence in him and closeness between him and his Rabb. He feels at ease even if he is surrounded by unfavourable and difficult situations. He does not feel alone. This is quite similar to someone who enters all the departments without any fear because he has the private number of the one who is the head of the department.
