As Salaam

As-Salaam means a Being who is the source of peace and security. And it also means a Being who is beyond all types of shortcomings and imperfection. Allah Ta’ala is As-Salaam in the sense that He guarantees security, peace and tranquillity to His servants, and the fact that He is perfect in His essence and His attributes, everything that is attributed to Allah Ta’ala is perfect by excellence. The existence of Allah Ta’ala is perfect. His knowledge, His power, His authority and His words are all perfect.

Allah Ta’ala is As-Salaam in the sense that any kind of protection that anyone received is due to His favour. It is He who inspires peace and tranquillity in the heart.

It was He who protected Hazrat Ibrahim (Alaihis Salaam) in the fire. It was He who protected Hazrat Musa (Alaihis Salaam) at sea. It was he who protected Hazrat Yusuf (Alaihis Salaam) in the well. It was He who protected Hazrat Yunus (Alaihis Salaam) in the belly of the fish. And it was He who protected Rasullullah (Sallallaahu Alaihi Wasallam) in the cave of Thur. Finally, the Muslims will receive the protection of Allah Ta’ala from Dajjaal.

The intelligence of the intelligent ones, the courage of the brave ones, the power of super-powerful pseudo and the tyranny of the tyrants are neutralised in front of the will of As-Salaam.

This attribute demands that we keep ourselves away from all indecency, immorality and lowliness. It demands that we purify our interior from bad character such as rancour, jealousy and pride solely for the pleasure of As-Salaam so as to be a source of peace for the entire humanity. This is the ideal Muslim and this is what is called total submission. According to a Hadith, Rasullullah (Sallallaahu Alaihi Wasallam) said:

"The true believer is the one whom humanity is safe from his misdeeds."

That is, he does not cause harm to anyone.
