Life insurance

Question:

Does a person have the right to insure his life?

Answer:

Normally when a person insures his life, he must contribute a certain amount of money to the society concerned. Thereafter, he must contribute continuously every month or every year. Normally, according to this contract, he may receive more than the amount that he contributed. According to the Shari’ah, this surplus is regarded as interest. As we know, interest is Haraam. Thus, this Life Insurance Policy also is Haraam because it implies interest.
