BARAKAH OF DURUD SHAREEF

Sheikh-ul Hadith, Hazrat Maulana Zakariyya (Rahmatullahi 'alayh) said in one of his narrations in his book "Faza'il-e-Durud" that the place where Maulana Faiz-ul-Hassan had passed away, had a pleasant fragrance for one month. Maulana Qaasim said that it is the Barakah of Durud Shareef because every Thursday night Maulana Faiz-ul-Hassan used to spend the night sending Durud on the Prophet (Sallallahou Alaihi Wasallam).

A person who seems to have no respect for the ‘Ulama, has made a banal comment. He said:

“There is no doubt that those who have sent the most Durud on the Prophet (Sallallahou Alaihi Wasallam) and in the best legal way, were the Sahaabah (Radiyallahu Anhum). Despite that, we have not seen such a «Barakah». From where did this Barakah emanate? Is there anyone after the Sahaabah (Radiyallahu Anhum) who has sent more Durud on the Prophet (Sallallahou Alaihi Wasallam) and has sent it in a better method than them?”

We notice that this person did not produce any proof from the Qur'aan or Hadith to disapprove this narration. He has merely based his opinion on a banal supposition. Is there any proof in the Qur'an or Hadith that says that a Barakah that has not been manifested by the Sahaabah (Radiyallahu Anhum), cannot be manifested by others? Definitely, there is no such proof. Therefore, what this person has mentioned, is not based on any proof of the Shari'ah. On the contrary, it goes against many theories/concepts of the Qur'aan and Hadith. This is because if Hazrat Yunus (Alaihis Salaam) was safe and sound for 40 days in the belly of the fish, should the same event occur to Rasulullah (Sallallahou Alaihi Wasallam) also for that to be true? If Hazrat Ibrahim (Alaihis Salaam) did not burn in the fire, should the same event happen to Rasulullah (Sallallahou Alaihi Wasallam) for that to be true? Hazrat Khubaib (Radiyallahu Anhu) had received a bunch of grapes of the size of a person’s head to eat while he was imprisoned by the Mushrik in Makkah and yet, during those days, there were no grapes anywhere in Makkah. Does a person have the right to say “Where does this Barakah of grapes originates from” merely because Hazrat Abu Bakr (Radiyallahu Anhu) or Hazrat ‘Umar (Radiyallahu Anhu) did not have this honour?

All this shows that sometimes, Allah Ta’ala grants a particular favour to a junior which He does not grant to a senior. According to an anecdote of Allaamah Bin Taimiyyah in his “Al-Furqaan”, the enemies had thrown Abu Muslim Al-Khawlaani into the fire. When they came to see him, they saw him performing Salah standing in the fire. Do we have the right to say “Where did this originate from” merely because this miracle was not experienced by the Sahaabah-e-Kiraam (Radiyallahu Anhum)?

At this point, we cannot prevent ourselves from saying that this comment comes from a person who does not know Deen or who learned Deen but does not know his subject matter well.

He continues his futile comment further: "Maulana Faiz-ul-Hassan was spending the night sending Durud on the Prophet (Sallallaahu Alaihi Wasallam). Did the Prophet (Sallallaahu Alaihi Wasallam) teach us to spend the night sending Durud every Thursday night?" It is very difficult to believe that such a comment can emanate from someone who knows Deen. However, there are all kinds of specimens in this Dunya. It is not surprising if a B.A or M.A in Shari’ah makes such a futile comment. To answer this objection, we ask if there is certain Hadith which prevents sending Durud on Thursday night? We are asking such a question because those who do Khutbah in Creole, use to ask if there is any Hadith that prohibits doing Khutbah in Creole. Through this, they want to say that it is permissible because according to them, there is nothing in Hadith that prevents it. If they are sincere in their proof, then according to their very same proof, it must be permissible to spend every Thursday night in sending Durud. That is not all. Nevertheless, we have a Hadith where Rasulullah has recommended to recite Durud in abundance during the night and the day of Jummah. Allaamah Ibn Taimiyyah reported in his Al-Furqaan that Rasulullah (Sallallahou Alaihi Wasallam) said:

"اكثروا على الصلاة يوم الجمعة وليلة الجمعة فان صلاتكم معروضة على"

“Send abundant Durud upon me on the day and the night of Jummah because your Durud will be presented to me …”

According to this Hadith, Rasulullah (Sallallahou Alaihi Wasallam) has recommended reciting abundant Durud during the night of Jummah. According to the Shari’ah, night comes before the day. Therefore, the night of Jummah starts from Maghrib time on Thursday. In our language, it is called Thursday night but according to the Shari’ah, it is Friday night or the night of Jummah. So, what is wrong if a person spends that night, that is, the night of Jummah in sending Durud on Rasulullah (Sallallahou Alaihi Wasallam) because Rasulullah (Sallallahou Alaihi Wasallam) has recommended this practice?
