Gold jewellery

It is not permissible for males to use gold in the form of jewellery. As for females, it is permissible for them to use gold in the form of jewellery. There are Hadith which give the impression that women also are not allowed to use gold jewellery but according to all scholars, these Hadith, have either been abrogated or apply to women who expose their jewellery in front of male strangers. Similarly, this may apply to those who wear them out of pride.

In any case, wearing gold jewellery is totally permissible for women. Allaamah An-Nawawi and Allaamah Bin Hajar Al-Asqalani have said that there is Ijma (consensus) of Ulama on the fact that women are allowed to wear gold jewellery.

It is to be noted that Ijma is very solid proof because Rasulullah (Sallallaahu Alaihi Wasallam) has given guarantee that all the Ulama cannot agree on something that is incorrect. Therefore, when they all agree that it is permissible, then it must be something which is permissible. 

Once the Ulama agree on a point, no one has the right to question it henceforth. Isolated opinion exists quite everywhere. We must not consider that. We must always follow Ijma. As for other gold objects besides jewellery such as plates, spoons, dishes, combs, etc., they are Haraam for both men and women. The only thing which is permissible is gold jewellery for women!
