Ar-Raqeeb

Ar-Raqeeb means someone who observes everything in all its minute details. Nothing escapes his knowledge. Belief in this attribute keeps a person away from all kinds of sins. It is difficult to disobey Allah Ta'ala when we have a strong and a firm belief that everything is happening in front of Allah Ta'ala and that He is observing our actions.

Meditation on this attribute helps one to resist against detrimental temptations and desires. Whenever a person is tempted to do evil, he should ponder for a while that Allah Ta'ala is watching him. Is it nice to commit some nonsense while Allah Ta'ala is watching him? This exercise may not be that effective initially but one should not be discouraged because there is an effect each time it is done. With time, this will turn into a belief and a firm conviction that will make him ashamed in front of Allah Ta'ala. Thus, he will abstain from sin in solitude just like he refrains from it in front of people.
