Question

Asalam
Can I name my son Muhammad Hadi with the intention of him being a guide, the righteous one for his siblings and family, without it associating him with the attribute of Allah?

Answer

Waalaikumussalaam wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh

It is not permissible to name someone with one of the names of Allah Taa’la which is unique to Him. For example, a person cannot name his/her child Al-Razzaaq, Al-Khaaliq and Al-Ghaffaar without adding the word “Abd”(slave) before it. He/she should name the child Abdur Razzaaq, Abdul Khaaliq or Abdul Ghaffaar.

However, the name which is not specific to Allah Taa’la like Al-Haadi, Al-Rasheed and Al-Kabeer then it is permissible to use those name without the word “Abd”. Muhammad Haadi is authorised but better is Abdul Haadi.
