Talaaq without witnesses

Q. A man gave Talaq (divorce) to his wife verbally, and there were no witnesses. Is this Talaq valid?

A.When the husband gives Talaq to his wife verbally, the Talaq is valid because it does not have to be written or witnessed. It should be noted that just as Talaq is valid when it is pronounced seriously, it is also valid when it is said as a joke, in a state of drunkenness, or in anger. Therefore, one should be very careful before uttering Talaq so as to avoid regrets later.
