THE IMPORTANCE OF SADAQAH (CHARITY)
According to a Hadith, Rasulullah (Sallallaahu 'Alaihi Wasallam) said:
"It is Wajib (obligatory) upon each of you to give Sadaqah (charity) every morning for every joint in your body."
AnotherHadith states that there are 360 joints in the human body, and each person must give a Sadaqah for each of them. This is an expression of gratitude to Allah Ta'ala, who, after a night of sleep (which resembles death), grants us life again with our bodies intact and functioning.
The Sahabah (Radiyallahu Anhum) asked, "What if we do not have the means to give Sadaqah for each joint?"
Rasulullah (Sallallaahu 'Alaihi Wasallam) replied:
"Every Tasbih (glorification of Allah) is a Sadaqah, every Takbir is a Sadaqah, reciting Laa ilaaha illallah is a Sadaqah, saying Allahu Akbar is a Sadaqah, and even removing an obstacle from the road is a Sadaqah. In short, he listed several kinds of sadaqaat (plural of sadaqah). There are other Ahaadith like these where the blessings of Allah upon a person are listed.
In addition, there are also other blessings of Allah regarding food, drink, comfort, well-being, etc. In this regard, it is also stated in theQur'an Sharif, in Surah At-Takathur (Chapter 102), states that on the Day of Qiyamah, every person will be questioned about the blessings Allah has bestowed upon them.
Hadhrat Ibn-e-Abbas (Radiyallahu Anhuma) explains that a person will be asked about their health, eyes, ears, and whether they used the blessings of Allah in His service or merely for their own pleasure.
In Surah Bani Isra'il, Allah Ta'ala also reminds us:
"Indeed questioning shall take place with regard to the ears, the eyes and the hearts." (17:36)
