The first condition for Zakat is that a person must possess Nisaab (the minimum wealth for Zakat).

The Islamic date on which a person had the Nisaab for the very first time, must be noted. And after each lunar year, on the same date Zakat will be calculated, if the Nisaab is present.

If a person does not remember the Islamic date on which he had the Nisaab for the first time, then he should fix one this year. From then onwards, he must evaluate his wealth and calculate his Zakat on the same date.

Coming to your query, for this year, if you previously had Nisaab in the past, fix an Islamic date now and evaluate your wealth. If ever you possess the Nisaab, calculate your Zakat. And remember the same Islamic date for the coming years.
