Assalamoualaikum-the practice of chanting darood salam aloud,standing in group,what are your thoughts of this practice?any idea of its origin.

Answer

The Hadith of Nabi (s.a.w) does not specify any posture to read durood and salaam. One may do it whilst standing, walking, sitting or even lying position. However it is recommended to do it in sitting position like in qa'dah, facing the qiblah, with concentration and love for Nabi (s.a.w). Reading Durood Shareef in chorus whilst standing in group was not the practice of the noble Sahabah (r.a), Taabi'een and Tabi' Taabi'een. We have no idea of its origin.
