What answer can be given to those who say: how keeping the beard to a fist length can be classified as the Sunnat while even the jews, hindus etc wear long beard? Please give a jami' answer.

Answer

The fact that they do some practices which coincide with sunnah cannot be used as a criteria to disqualify these practices as being sunnah. The normal practice concerning beard is to keep it at least one fist length. According to a Hadith in Bukhari Shareef, Hazrat Abdullah Ibn Umar (r.a) used to hold his beard with his fist and trim the exceeding beard to make it a fist length. And also Nabi (s.a.w) always emphasized on keeping the beard in an orderly manner which is rarely seen in non-muslims. So according to sunnah the beard should be in an orderly manner to the length of at least one fist in every direction.
