Wa alaikumus salaam warahmatullahi wabarakaatuh
Salaam, Salaat, Radhiyallahu anhu, Rahmatullaahi alaih are said to specific category of personalities.
Salaat is restricted to Ambiyaa.
Alaihis Salaam to Ambiyaa and Farishta.
Radhiyallahu anhum to Sahabah.
Rahmatullahi alaih to deceased pious.
The word "Assalaamu alaikum" can be said to greet muslims only. If by using "Peace be upon you" you mean salaam then it can be said to muslim, whereas for non-muslims we use "Hadaakallah" it means May Allah grant you guidance.
