Anomalies

"We did not send any messenger before you nor a prophet, but when he recited, Shaitaan cast doubts in his recitations.  So, Allah eradicates what Shaitaan casts, then Allah consolidates His verses, and Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise." (22:52)

Regarding the Shaan-e-Nouzoul of this verse, bear in mind that there is an event without basis which was reported and later exploited by the enemies of Islam in the foul purpose of sowing doubts regarding the most authentic book, the Qur'aan-e-Karim.  However, according to the Mufassireen and Muhadditheen, the origin of this story is not authentic as it is unfounded.  Furthermore, it is an abominable lie by the ‘Mulhideen’ (apostates, irreligious) and the ‘Zanaadiqah’ (those who propagate falsehood in the name of Deen) to depreciate the indisputable authenticity of the Qur'aan-e-Karim; “…but Allah will perfect His light, even though the disbelievers dislike (it)." (61: 8)

According to this "imaginary" event, during the revelation of Surah An-Najm when Rasulullah (Sallallahu A'laihi ‎Wasallam) had reached verses 19-20, Shaitaan made Rasulullah (Sallallahu A'laihi Wasallam)recite ‎these words :‎

"Tilkal Gharaniqul - u'la wa-inna shafaa'tahunna la turtaja."
Translation: These are divine deities whose intercession is hoped!

But as mentioned above, after having carefully considered from all angles, all the great scholars of Islam agreed that this story is not authentic.

Imaam Raazi (R) said that it is a false and fabricated story.  Ibn Khouzaïmah (R) said that it is an invention of the ‘Zanaadiqah’.  According to Qaazî Iyaaz (R), it is a "baatil" (without foundation) story and it is contrary to the logic from the religious point of view.  As for Imaam Baihaqi (R), he said that this story has no foundation.

It is true that for some, this "weird" story seems to be authentic considering its transmission chain.  But for the scholars of hadith, an authentic chain of transmission does not necessarily authenticate an event.  This event has also been narrated in different versions from which ambiguity and confusion arose, and that is enough for it to be rejected.  The scholars who rejected the story concerned, while qualifying it as falsehood and fabrication, based it on the principle (which is unanimously accepted by the Oummah) that Rasulullah (Sallallahu A'laihi Wasallam) is infallible and cannot be deceived by any external force when it comes to the transmission of the messages of Allah Ta'aala.  Moreover, according to the established principle, a concept that opposes the unanimity of the Ummah (which is an infallible force) does not even deserve to be taken into consideration as it is not free from manipulation and error.  Thus, it is only natural that this ‘consensus’ be considered as the certainty, repelling any assumptions.   Besides, this principle is drawn from the Qur'aan-e-Karim where Allah Ta'aala said regarding the unbelievers: "They do not have knowledge about it. They follow only assumptions, and assumptions are of no avail in regards to the truth." (53:28)

In terms of revelation and transmission of the message of Allah Ta'aala, there are many verses that indicate that the Qur'aan-e-Karim and Rasulullah (Sallallahu A'laihi Wasallam) are protected against satanic manipulation.  In Surah Hameem Sajdah verse 42, Allah Ta'aala says: "…no falsehood can approach it from the front or from the back. It is a revelation from the Wise, Who is Most Worthy of praise."

The most important factor is the revelation of the Qur'aan-e-Karim because Deen itself is based on this book.  It goes without saying that the truth of Deen-e-Islam is derived from the indisputable authenticity of this message of eternal salvation for which Allah Ta'aala Himself is the Guarantor.  He tells us in the Qur'aan-e-Karim: "It is We Who have revealed the Reminder 'Az-Zikr' (the Qur'aan-e-Karim) and We are certainly its protector." (15:9)

It is noteworthy that at the time of revelation, some angels escorted Hazrat Jibril (Alaihis Salaam) while others surrounded Rasulullah (Sallallahu A'laihi Wasallam) to preserve the revelation from all kinds of manipulation of Shaitaan.  In Surah 72 verses 27 and 29, Allah Ta'aala tells us that He appointed some guardians in front and behind the Messenger (Sallallahu A'laihi Wasallam) to ensure that the angels have delivered the message of their Lord correctly.

Undoubtedly, Allah Ta'aala is the One who knows everything.  But the purpose of monitoring and protecting the message of revelation by means of angels is to assure Nabi-e-Karim (Sallallahu A'laihi Wasallam) that it is, in fact, a Divine revelation.

In light of the Qur'aan-e-Karim, it is well known and absolutely certain that Rasulullah (Sallallahu A'laihi Wasallam) has never said anything on his behalf and that the revelation of the Qur'aan-e-Karim is preserved from falsehood and invention.  The following verses clearly show it:

"It is a revelation from the Lord of the worlds. If he has attributed some words to us. We shall grab him by his right hand. We shall then severe his jugular vein." (69: 43-46).

(The jugular vein: The main vein of the heart that carries red blood cells around the whole body.)

These verses also show us that Allah Ta'aala would never have allowed Rasulullah (Sallallahu A'laihi Wasallam) to utter words which do not correspond to revelation.  That said, it would be absurd to believe that Allah Ta'aala had allowed Rasulullah (Sallallahu A'laihi Wasallam) to verbalize words which were not only absurd but formally oppose the concept of Tauheed, the fundamental doctrine of Islam.  From this, one may conclude without fear of contradiction that the story told about the Shan-e-Nouzoul earlier is baseless and without foundation, all the more, since it goes against the Quranic verses which according to their meaning and sources, do not leave any possibility of this kind of event to occur.  So, this story should be categorically rejected and deserves no consideration.

According to the Mufassireen, the correct interpretation of verse 52 of Surah 22 is that the Shaitaan, as usual, sows doubt in the hearts of the Kuffaar and Mushrikeen regarding verses which emanate from the message of Allah Ta'aala and which Rasulullah (Sallallahu A'laihi Wasallam) recites.  But Allah Ta'aala removes and eliminates any doubt that Shaitaan casts in the recitation of the Qur'aan-e-Karim.

As for such satanic stratagem, Allah Ta'ala has mentioned in verse 112 of Surah 6 where He says:

"In a like manner, we have appointed for every Nabi enemies who are Shayaateen from among humans and Jinn. Some of them wisper to others things that seem good but deceive."

Further in verse 121 of the same Surah, Allah Ta'aala said: "Shayateen whisper evil into the hearts of those friends so that they dispute with you."

This is the same type of satanic inspiration that the Qur'aan-e-Karim - Sublime Guide and inseparable from the eternal Truth - mentioned in verse 52 of Surah Hajj.  But at no time can we say that Shaitaan could approach Rasulullah (Sallallahu A'laihi Wasallam) to make him verbalize (Naoûzoubillah) words that do not conform to the revelation and the spirit of Islam.

May Allah Ta'aala give us the understanding and preserve us from such traps.  (Aameen)
