Khatm-ul Qur’an and our ancestors

When Hazrat Abdoullah Bin Idrees (Rahmatullaahi alayh)’s death neared, his daughter started crying. Then, Hazrat Abdoullah Bin Idrees (Rahmatullaahi alayh) told her: "Don't cry. I made 4000 Khatmul-Qur'an in this house."

Once Hazrat Abu Bakr Bin Ayyaash (Rahmatullaahi alayh) told his son:

"O my son, your father has never committed any foolishness/nonsense. And he did one Katam Qur'an every day for 30 years."

Before his demise, he said to his daughter when he saw her crying: "O my daughter, do not cry. Do you fear that Allah Ta'ala will punish me? And yet I made 24,000 Khatm- ul-Qur'an in this house."

According to one version, he said to his son:

"O my son, do not ever disobey Allah Ta'ala in this room because I made 12,000 Khatm-ul-Qur’an here."

These two narrations appear in the Muqaddamah (introduction) which Allaamah An-Nawawi (Rahmatullaahi alayh) wrote for Saheeh Muslim. After relating these two narrations, Allaamah An-Nawawi (Rahmatullaahi alayh) says:

"It is not right that people who read this refuse to accept these statements in regard to these personalities whose mention cause blessings to come down, because this attitude is a sign of failure for that person."
