Da'wah in the house of a Mayyat
It is Makruh (a detestable practice) for the family of the Mayyat to give Da'wah (an invitation) to eat because this (providing a meal) is done for happy occasions and not in time of misfortune. And this is a reprehensible Bid'ah (innovation).
Imam Ahmad and Ibn Maajah (Rahmatullaahi alayhima) reported with an authentic Sanad (chain of narration) that (Hazrat) Jarir Bin Abdullah (Radiyallahu Anhu) said: "We used to consider gathering in the house of the Mayyat and preparation of food by the family of the Mayyat as a practice of Niyaahah (lamentation)."
Fath-ul-Qadeer of Ibn-ul-Humaam passed away in 861 H / Raddul-Muhtaar (Shaami)
Note: Niyaahah (lamentation) means to cry loudly on the death of someone. It is a practice that has been strictly prohibited by Nabi (Sallallaahu Alaihi Wasallam).
"It is Makruh (a detestable practice) to give a meal on the first and the third day and likewise after a week of a demise in the house." (Fataawa Bazzaaziyyah of Hafiz-ud-Deen Muhammad Bin Muhammad who passed away in 827 H / Raddul Muhtaar of Sayyad Muhammad Bin Ameen who passed away in 1260H)
