QUESTION
Does a Masbuq have the right to participate with the Imam in Sajdah Sahw?
ANSWER:
Masbuq means a person who missed part of his Salaah with the Imam. For example, he joined the Imam in the first Rak'aat after Ruku' or in the second Rak'aat etc.
Normally, such a Mussalli must wait for the Imam to complete his Salaah before standing up to replace his missed Rak'aat. That is when the Imam has already made his second Salaam, he must stand to replace his Rak’aat. If the Imam does Sajdah Sahw, he must do it also. But he must not make Salaam. If he made Salaam forgetfully, his Salaah will not be affected. As soon as he remembers that he has to complete his Salaah, he can stand up to complete his Salaah on condition that his chest has not turned away from the Qiblah and that he has not spoken, laughed, eaten, nor did he engage in actions that nullify Salaah. But should he do Sajdah Sahw when he completes his Salaah?
If he did this Salaam before or with the Imam, he does not have to repeat Sajdah Sahw. But if his Salaam is after that of the Imam, then in this case he must repeat the Sajdah Sahw when he replaces his Salaah. If he made Salaam with the Imam knowing that he must make up for some Rak’aat, his Salaah will break and he must perform it again.
Note that if due to ignorance, a person thinks that he has to do Salaam with the Imam despite having Rak'aat to make up for, this is also like making Salaam consciously. This means that his Salaah will break and that he will have to perform it again.
