Making Qurbani for another

A person who possesses Nisaab must perform Qurbani. If every year he has the means, then every year he must do Qurbani.

Very often, there are people who make the mistake of not doing Qurbani for themselves. Instead, they do Qurbaani for their children or their close ones who have already passed away. However, if they have the means, then as first priority, they must do Qurbani for themselves. Thereafter, if they still have the means, then they can do it on behalf of whoever they want. But one must never neglect it on one’s behalf and do it on behalf of another. It is like performing Nafl and neglecting Farz which is definitely not correct.
