Qurbaani

QURBAANI

Hazrat Abu Hurairah (Radiyallahu Anhu) narrated that Rasulullah (Sallallaahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: “The one who has the means and does not perform Qurbaani, must not approach our Muswalla (Eidgah).” (Ibn Majah / Musnad Ahmad / Muswanaf Ibn Abu Shaibah / Ad-Daarqutni / Mustadrak Al-Haakim)

Qurbani

Qurbani is Waajib (obligatory) on a person who has the means.

"A person who has the means" refers to a person who, in addition to his basic needs and debts, has thirty thousand rupees or that value in any form.

Parts of an animal that must not be consumed

Blood is impure. The Qur’an-e-Kareem has prohibited the consumption of blood and has declared it Haraam. Therefore, it is not permissible to consume blood. This is the reason why the Shari’ah has commanded the slaughtering of an animal in order for that animal to become Halaal. Performing Zabah allows all the impure blood to come out of the animal. This blood is termed as "Dam Masfooh" in the Qur’an-e-Kareem, that is, a blood that circulates in the veins. And it is this blood that is impure and Haraam.

A Mas'ala!

The animal of Qurbani should already be yours before its blood is shed, otherwise your Qurbaani will not be valid. For that animal to become yours, you must have bought it already before it is slaughtered. If the price of the animal was not yet fixed at the time of its slaughtering, it means that the animal was not yet yours. It still belonged to its owner. That is why we should be very careful. Many people are of the habit of fixing the price of the animal according to its weight after slaughtering. They do not fix the price before that.

Qurbani

Rasulullah (Sallallaahu Alaihi Wasallam) had adopted quite a severe tone in regards to the one who does not perform Qurbani when he has the means. He has even prevented such a person from approaching the Eid-gah. A severe tone cannot be adopted for an action which is optional. It must be an action which is important and obligatory. This severe tone has been adopted concerning the negligence of Qurbani despite a person having the means to do it. Thus, this proves that Qurbani is Waajib (obligatory) on a person who has the means.

Hadith

Hazrat Umme Salamah (Radiyallahu Anha) reports that Nabi (Sallallaahu Alaihi Wasallam) said:

"When the ten days (of Zil-Hijjah) begin and anyone of you has made the intention to perform Qurbani, then he must neither cut his hair nor his nails."

Making Qurbani for another

A person who possesses Nisaab must perform Qurbani. If every year he has the means, then every year he must do Qurbani.
