At-Tafweez - التفويض

Tafweez means that a person submits himself fully to the will of Allah Ta’ala. That is, he places everything in the hands of Allah Ta’ala and he accepts everything that Allah Ta’ala decides. He does not depend on anyone nor does he have hope on anyone else besides Allah Ta’ala. This is a state of mind that the Shari’ah recommends to instil in us and that renders the life of a person very easy.

A person, who manages to instil this character in him, enjoys the protection and the assistance of Allah Ta’ala. And at the same time, he gets moral tranquillity. In the Qur’an-e-Kareem, Allah Ta’ala tells us about the event of a family member of Pharaoh who had secretly embraced Imaan. When Pharaoh had threatened Hazrat Musa (Alaihis Salaam), this person had interceded in favour of Musa (Alaihis Salaam). Then, Pharaoh had threatened to kill him also. Then, he said: 

"... وافوض امرى الى الله"

"I hand over my problem to Allah Ta’ala..."

According to the Tafseer Kabeer of Allaamah Fakhruddeen Ar-Razi (Rahmatullahi alayh), this person escaped and went on the mountain. When the enemies went to search for him, they saw him making Ibaadat and he was surrounded by ferocious animals. According to this same Tafseer, these animals had attacked these people and had killed them all except one person who had managed to return to Pharaoh. But Pharaoh doubted him and killed him. This is how Allah Ta’ala makes arrangements to protect His servants when His servants place their trust in Allah Ta’ala.

This does not mean in the least that a person must just place his trust and abstain from making any effort. It is not such at all. This means that a person must make maximum effort to acquire certain things and makes Dua to Allah Ta’ala but leave the result in the hands of Allah Ta’ala and be satisfied with the decision of Allah Ta’ala. He must not maintain that it must happen according to his desire. Such behaviour makes a person remain in agony all the time and it prevents him from having tranquillity. Firstly, he tries to calm himself with medicines but finally a time comes when medicines also stop having its effect.

A state within a state

This refers to the bad character called تجويز. That is, when a person decides to do something, he wants the matter to turn out according to his thinking. If there is something that can be called the state in the state, then it is this bad behaviour which is called "Tajweez" that deserves this name the most. And, the state in the state is something detestable. Therefore, تجويز deserves to be disliked the most because it represents a kind of interference in the Divine decision. Someone rightly said:

"Leave everything in Allah's hand; you will see Allah's hand in everything."
