Roza during pregnancy

When a woman is pregnant and she fears that the condition of her baby will be affected if she fasts, then she is allowed not to fast. That is, this is a valid reason according to the Shar’iah which allows her not to fast during the month of Ramadhan and she will not get any sin.

However, must she replace this Roza afterwards or not? With the exception of an isolated opinion, according to all Aimmah like Imam Abu Hanifah (Rahmatullahi alayh), Imam Malik (Rahmatullahi alayh), Imam Shafi’i (Rahmatullahi alayh) and Imam Ahmad Bin Hambal (Rahmatullahi alayh), such a woman must replace the Roza that she has missed during her pregnancy. Even Allaamah Taimiyyah (Rahmatullahi alayh) says in his Majmu'at-ul-Fataawa that the Roza must be replaced. We must not follow this isolated opinion which states that a woman must not replace her missed Roza because an isolated opinion cannot have priority over an opinion that has been accepted and adopted by the majority. According to the vast majority of scholars and the Ummah in general, a pregnant woman must replace her Roza which she has missed during her pregnancy. Similarly, if a suckling woman faces problem and difficulty to fast, then this woman also is allowed not to fast. However, she has to replace her missed Roza afterwards. It is to be noted that it is a major mistake to give importance to an isolated opinion.

Rasulullah (Sallallaahu Alaihi Wasallam) has severely warned those who do that. In a Hadith, Rasulullah (Sallallaahu Alaihi Wasallam) said:

"The one who isolates himself from As-Sawaad-ul-A'zam (the vast majority), will be thrown into hell."
