Touching the Qur'aan without Wuzu
QUESTION:
Is it permissible to touch the Qur'aan without Wuzu?
ANSWER:
According to all the 4 Mazhab, only a person, who is in the state of purity (who has Wuzu), is allowed to touch the Qur'aan. Rasulullah (Sallallaahu Alaihi Wasallam) had written a letter sent to Hazrat 'Amr bin Hazm (Radiyallahu Anhu) which says: "No one should touch the Qur'aan besides the one who is in a state of purity (who has Wuzu)." Imam Ahmad (Rahmatullaahi alayh) said: "There is no doubt that Rasulullah (Sallallaahu Alaihi Wasallam) had written this letter to him (Amr Bin Hazm (Radiyallahu Anhu))." This is also the opinion of Salman Al Farsi and Abdullah Bin Umar (Radiyallahu Anhum). And there is no one among the Sahaabah (Radiyallahu Anhum) who has contradicted these two (Sahaabah)." (Majmu Fatawaa Ibn Taimiyyah)
