Masah of the neck

"To make Masah of the neck is neither recommended nor Sunnah. Some Ulama say that it is Sunnah. Therefore, when there is difference of opinion, it is better to make Masah instead of neglecting it." (Qazi Khan - passed away in 592 Hijri)

Touching the Qur'aan without Wuzu

QUESTION:

Is it permissible to touch the Qur'aan without Wuzu?

ANSWER:

Masah on normal socks

According to the Qur’an-e-Kareem, there are four things that are required to be performed in Wuzu. Therefore, there are four things that are Farz in Wuzu:

1. To wash the face,

2. To wash both hands up to the elbows,

3. To wash both feet up to the ankles and

4. To make Masah of the head.

Tahaarat in the Salah

A person must have full Tahaarat (purity) for his Salah to be valid. That is, one must have both Ghusl and Wuzu. The essential thing in Ghusl is that one must wet the entire body in a way that no part remains dry. In addition, one must gargle the mouth and put water in the nostrils. For Wuzu, one should essentially wash the face, both arms up to the elbows, make Masah (passing of the wet hand over the head) of the head and wash the feet up to the ankles.

Masah on the socks

In principle, it is Farz to wash the feet in Wuzu. But if a person is wearing socks, then in some cases, he is not obliged to remove his socks to wash his feet. He can do Masah (pass wet hands) on his socks instead of washing his feet. But this authorisation does not apply to all kinds of socks. It applies to a special sock. In principle, it is made up of leather and it is called Khuff. This authorisation may also apply to a sock which is made of a thick fabric which looks a bit like leather due to its thickness.

Cleanliness

The Sharī'ah has emphasised a lot on cleanliness. In the Qur'aan-é-Karîm, Allah Ta’ala says:

“... and Allah loves those who keep themselves very clean.” (S9: V108)

In a Hadith, Rasulullah (Sallallaahou Aaihi Wasallam) said:

“..... Allah is pure, He loves purity. He is clean, He likes cleanliness. ” (Tirmizi)

In another Hadith, Rasulullah (Sallallaahou Aaihi Wasallam) said:
