YOUR PARENTS

There is no one who can love you more than your parents. It is something that you have not grasped and realised as yet. When you will have your own children, then truly you will know how much your parents love you. When your children will make you suffer, then you will know how much you made your parents suffer. You should not think that there is still time for it to happen. In the blink of an eye, you will see everything happening because time does not wait. It continues to move. It passes on. You are the one who sits, sleeps and rests. Time is moving all the time. Something which is moving all the time, does not delay to come.

Respect for parents

Respect for parents has great value in Islam. It is so important that Allah Ta’ala has commanded not to ill-treat parents immediately after commanding not to worship anyone besides Him. Ill-treating parents is a kind of Kufr which is a bit similar to committing Kufr with Allah Ta’ala. That is why the Qur’an-e-Karem has put a lot of emphasis on respecting parents. Allah Ta’ala said:

"... Do not even tell them “Oof” and do not rebuke them. Speak gently to them." (S 17: V 23)

When a person gets old, a lot of shortcomings are developed in him.  He may repeat the same thing several times. A child must not show his irritation or annoyance at such a time. If one has to say something to them, it must be said in the most appropriate way possible.

Hazrat Mujaahid said that when parents have become old, you should not show repugnance when it comes to cleansing/purifying them. You should bear in mind that you were also such when you were a baby. Your parents had never showed repugnance to cleanse you. Rasulullah (Sallallaahu Alaihi Wasallam) said:-

"Jannah lies under  the feet of the mother."
