Zikrullah

Everyone likes to speak about the things that they love. A football fan takes great pleasure in speaking about football. An alcohol drinker’s mouth waters when he hears about whisky. A person who is a fan of horse racing will remain in the thought of horses. A good Muslim also feels relieved when he thinks of his true beloved. The beloved of a Muslim is Allah Ta’ala. So, a good Muslim feels an extraordinary tranquillity and a great relief when he thinks of Allah Ta’ala.

The desire to continuously think of something indicates the degree of love that a person has for that thing as without love and appreciation, a person cannot love thinking about something. Therefore, it is the love that a person has for Allah Ta’ala that makes him think of Allah Ta’ala. Hence, the more a person's love for Allah Ta’ala is strong, the more he will be engaged in Zikrullah (the thought of Allah) and he will experience an extraordinary pleasure upon hearing the name of Allah Ta’ala.

When we prefer listening to songs instead of doing Tilaawat-ul-Qur’an - When we prefer to sit in front of the T.V or the screen of the cinema instead of listening to a talk - When we enjoy speaking regarding an actor, an actress or a footballer instead of speaking regarding our true beloved Allah Ta’ala – in such moments, we should acknowledge that we have a sick and a paralysed Imaan. It indicates a deficiency in our belief in Aakhirah. Giving preference to something over Allah Ta’ala is the way of those who do not believe in Aakhirah. Giving preference to something else besides Allah Ta’ala makes a Muslim stoop to the rank of those who do not believe in Aakhirah. Not believing in Aakhirah is Kufr. Are we not committing this kind of Kufr without realising? It is a question that everyone among us should ask ourselves.

"When Allah, the One is mentioned, the hearts of those who do not believe in the Aakhirah contract. However, when the other gods besides Allah are mentioned, they suddenly rejoice." (S 39: V 45)

Rasulullah (Sallallaahu Alaihi Wasallam) taught us a Zikr which if, everyone among us does it 100 times morning and evening, he will be under the protection of Allah Ta’ala:

لَا اِلٰهَ اِلَّا اللّٰهُ وَحْدَهٗ لَا شَرِيْكَ لَهُ لَهٗ الْمُلْكُ وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ وَهُوَ عَلٰى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيْرٌ

"There is none worthy of worship except Allah, He is alone. He does not have any partner. The kingdom belongs to Him. He is the one who deserves all praises. And He has power over everything."

At first, for a start, it is good to do this Zikr. It will also be a means of getting the protection of Allah Ta’ala and His love.
