The desire to become good

It requires some courage and some willpower to control ourselves or at least to curb our desire to commit sins. Firstly, we must change our environment. Abstain from the company of those who encourage us to do evil. Remain in the company of the pious who will be a source of encouragement to remain firm on Deen.

Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wa salam) said:

"A person tends to adopt the character of his intimate friend. Thus, you should see well who you are befriending." (Abu Daawood and Tirmizi)

Good…

Good is to do  that which should be done and to refrain from things that should not be done. For example, indulging in useful talks and refraining from vain talks.

…and bad…

And bad is to do that which has been prohibited and to refrain from that which should be done. For example, a man covers the ankles which should be uncovered and a woman reveals her legs which should be covered. Similarly, we neglect the Sunnah of Nabi (sallallahu alaihi wa salam) which should not be neglected and we imitate the principle of others which should not be taken into consideration.

.... And the solution

We should follow the Sunnah of Nabi (sallallahu alaihi wa salam) because when a Sounnah of Nabi (sallallahu alaihi wa salam) is neglected, it is replaced by the principles of others. Success lies in following only the Sunnah of Nabi (sallallahou alaihi wa salam). Everything which corresponds to his Sunnah, is good and whatever goes  against his Sunnah, are bad.
