Dua "Allahumma Inni Aswumu Radan Laka Faghfirli Maa Qaddamtu Wa Maa Akh-Khartu" at the time of Sehri

Question: What is your opinion on the Dua that is read at the time of Sehri, that is: "Allahumma Inni Aswumu Radan Laka Faghfirli Maa Qaddamtu Wa Maa Akh-Khartu"? Is there mention of it in the Hadith?

Answer: To say that this Dua is found or is not found in the Hadith, requires quite deep and vast knowledge that we do not claim to possess. On the other hand, we do not see anyone who can make such an audacious statement. That is why we do not have the courage to claim that this Dua exists or does not exist in the Hadith. The least that we may easily say is that it is not in our knowledge. It should be noted that we acknowledge that our ignorance regarding something in Deen, is not a proof that it does not exist. Nonetheless, the meaning of this Dua is totally correct and it got the the general meaning of a Hadith according to which Rasulullah (Sallallahu A'laihi Wasallam) said:

"There are 3 categories of people whose Dua is never rejected: The Rozedaar as long as he did not do Iftaar ..." (Tirmizi and Ibn Majah)

In the state of Roza, a Rozedaar can make all types of Dua that are beneficial for him in this world and in the Aakhirah. This Hadith recommends and approves such Duas. This Dua also is like any other Dua. Therefore, there is nothing wrong in making this Dua. It is totally correct.
