Lailatul-Qadr

Among the nights that are filled with benefits and blessings, there is a night called Lailatul-Qadr. One of the reasons why this night is called Lailatul-Qadr is because this night is of great value. It is a night of great value as Allah Ta’ala has chosen this night to reveal the Qur’an-e-Kareem.

"Verily, We revealed it on the night of Qadr." (97:1)

That is, Allah Ta’ala has brought down the entire Qur’an Shareef from “Lauh-e-Mahfuz” to a place called Baitul-‘Izzah on that night. 

This night of great value or Lailatul Qadr is found in the month of Ramadhan. 

"The month of Ramadhan is the month in which the Qur’an was revealed ..." (2:185)

It is difficult to locate the exact night of this blessed night. There are about 40 different views on it. However, according to most of the Hadith and the most authentic Hadith, there is greater possibility that this night falls on one of the odd nights during the last ten days of Ramadhan, that is, on the 21st, 23rd, 25th, 27th and 29th nights. And among these also, there is a greater probability that this night falls on the 27th night. Nonetheless, nothing is 100% sure. So, in the search for Lailatul Qadr on the 27th, the 21st, 23rd, 25th should not be neglected. And one should not forget that there is also another opportunity after the 27th which is the 29th. 

Rasulullah (Sallallaahu A'laihi Wasallam) has recommended searching for this night. This is one of the reasons why Rasulullah (Sallallaahu A'laihi Wasallam) was observing I'tikaaf during the last 10 days of Ramadhan. It is during this night that Allah Ta’ala has decreed all the things that will take place during the entire year. 

"The decision of every matter of wisdom is passed on this night." (44:4)

Rasulullah (Sallallaahu A'laihi Wasallam) said: 

"The one, who spends this night of Qadr in Ibaadah with conviction and hope of getting reward, will be forgiven for all his previous sins." (Bukhari / Muslim)

If a person performs the Salah of Maghrib and ‘Isha daily during the month of Ramadhan, 20 Rak'aat of Taraweeh and 2 or 4 Rak'aat of Tahajjud before the time of Sehri, there is great hope that he will benefit from the blessings and bounties of Lailatul-Qadr. 

May Allah Ta’ala grant us all the Tawfeeq to do Ibaadah during this night. Ameen.
