Ultrasound scan?

Question:

Is it permissible for a pregnant woman to undergo an ultrasound scan to find out the gender of her baby?

Answer:

Girl or boy, both are decreed by Allah Ta’ala. One should be satisfied with what Allah Ta’ala gives us. We do not know what is best for us. Only Allah Ta’ala knows. So, there is no use in undergoing the ultrasound scan. Generally, a woman will have to expose her body to a stranger to undergo the ultrasound scan, which is Haraam according to the Shari’ah. Therefore, as long as there is no necessity, she is not allowed to expose her body. To know the gender of the baby is worthless/not worthwhile. Thus, she is not allowed to undergo this scan as she will have to expose herself to a stranger which is Haraam.
