Reciting behind the Imaam

Question:

"All those who say that one should not recite behind the Imaam are Jaahil." This is a statement made by an orator in one of his speech. Your comment please.

Answer:

This is a very serious statement. It appears that the author of this statement is irresponsible and carefree as there are several Sahaabah-e-Kiraam (Radiyallahu Anhum), Taabi’in and great personalities who have either prohibited reciting behind the Imaam or at least discourage this practice. It seems that the speaker is not aware of this fact. Otherwise, he would never have made such a statement. Hazrat Abu Bakr (Radiyallahu Anhu), Hazrat Umar (Radiyallahu Anhu), Hazrat Usmaan (Radiyallahu Anhu), Hazrat Ali (Radiyallahu Anhu), Hazrat Abdullah Bin Mas'ud (Radiyallahu Anhu), Hazrat Zaid Bin Thaabit (Radiyallahu Anhu) and Hazrat Abdullah Bin 'Umar (Radiyallahu Anhum); are some of the Sahaabah-e-Kiraam (Radiyallahu Anhum) who have prohibited recitation behind an Imaam.

Note: Recitation means to recite the Qur’an.
