Jamaat

Hadith

"... Certainly Allah does not accept the Salah of a person whose Izaar (pants) is below the ankles." (Abu Dawood)

Question:

If I come to the Masjid for Farz Salah and I find the Imaam in Ruku’, what should I do? If I manage to get the Ruku’, should I still replace this Rak'aat?

A banal principle

Often, people tend to justify a certain way of performing an 'Ibaadah' with the excuse that there is nothing that prohibits performing it in this way. An example is to make a second Dua after the Sounnah and Nafl Salah. Normally, Dua is highly recommended. There is no restriction as long as a person does it individually. However, when it is done in Jamaat, it takes a new turn. Above all, when people start doing it regularly in Jamaat, it takes another shape.

Performing Salah alone in a Saff

When one is performing Salah in Jamaat, it is not good to perform Salah alone in a Saff. When a person comes to the Masjid and finds that the Saff are filled, then he must not stand alone. It is recommended to draw a Musalli behind in order not to be alone in a Saff. This is the principle. By applying this principle, it is possible that the person does not understand and breaks his Salah. In such a case, one should not draw anyone. It is better to perform Salah alone than breaking the Salah of a person.

STRAIGHTENING THE SAFF IN SALAH

Rasulullah (Sallallaahu Alaihi Wasallam) has put a lot of emphasis regarding straightening the Saff in Salah. Straightening the Saff means standing next to each other and side-by-side in Salah in such a way that there is no gap between any Musalli. Similarly, it means standing side-by-side in such a way that no one is aligned in a disorderly manner, whereby the Saff does not remain straight, but becomes crooked.

Only one Rak'at with the Imam in the Salah of Maghrib

Question:

I got only one Rak'at with the Imam in the Salah of Maghrib. How must I replace my Salah?

Answer:

Salaah in Jamaat

During the interval of 24 hours, we have 5 Salaah which are Farz. To perform them in Jamaat is Sunnat-e-Mu'akkadah. That is, a regular practice of Nabi (Sallallaahu Alaihi Wasallam) that he never neglected without any valid reason. Thus, a Muslim must not leave it out without a valid reason. Nabi (Sallallaahu Alaihi Wasallam) has put emphasis on this greatly. He has even threatened to burn the houses of those who do not perform Salaah in Jamaat in the Masjid. This has led certain 'Ulama to say that to perform Farz Salah in Jamaat is Waajib.

Softly and loudly

An Imam must do Qiraat (recite) loudly in the Salaah of Fajr, Maghrib and 'Isha. It must be loud enough for the Musallis of the first Saff to hear him. He must not recite louder than necessary. He must adjust his Qiraat proportionate to the number of Musalli. It is not right to recite too loudly when there are just few Musallis who hardly fill the Saff. To recite so loudly that causes tiredness to him or hardship to others is not good/right.
