Akhlaaq-Tasawwuf

Who is a Wali

According to the 'Ulamaa, a Wali is defined as :

العالم بالله المواظب على طاعته المخلص فى عبادته

"A person who ''knows'' Allah Ta'aala, punctual in his obedience and sincere in his Ibaadah."

How to attain closeness to Allah?

Closeness to Allah is attained by performing the Ibaadaat for Allah.  There are some Ibaadaat which are obligatory called Faraaiz while others which are not obligatory.  These are supererogatory Ibaadaat which are called Nawaafil.  The word ''Faraaiz'' consists of actions that are compulsory to engage in and those that are compulsory to refrain from.

The indispensable means to reach Allah is by abiding by these Faraaiz.  Without doing this, a person may not gain closeness to Allah nor become the Wali of Allah.

The correct route

If you have taken the correct route, then you can reach your destination by a single step also. But a lifetime also will not be enough to reach your destination if you have taken the wrong direction. Speaking of the Shari'ah and the Deen, the Sunnah of Rassouloullah ‎(Sallallaahou A'laihi Wasallam) is the right way for a person to reach his destination with ease and safety.

Importance of observing the Sunnah of Nabi (Sallallahu Alaihi Wassalam)

"Doing Qailullah (the midday nap) with the intention of observing the Sunnah of Nabi (Sallallahu Alaihi Wassalam) is better than thousands and thousands of nights that may have been spent in Tahajjud but not in accordance to the Sunnah of Nabi (Sallallahu Alaihi Wassalam)." (Hazrat Sheikh Ahmad Sarhindi R)

Prisoners

People behind bars are called prisoners. There are people who roam around freely in all dignity and honour. But they are not necessarily free people. They too are prisoners although in a different way. They are prisoners of their vices and passions. This category of prisoners is far more extensive than those prisoners behind bars. How can a person consider himself to be free if he is not free of his inner self and his bad conscience?

Piety in its true sense

Imagine a person whom you love is visiting you. You welcome him warmly as he deserves. You honour this guest to the best of your abilities so that there is no reproach. However, when he is leaving, out of respect and humility, you will still say to him ''Do forgive me, I did not honour as well as should be done.'' This is how the very pious people weep and seek forgiveness from Allah Ta'aala after they have spent their whole night engaging in 'Ibaadah.

Taqwa

This world is like a path full of thorns. Normally, when a person has to pass through a path filled with thorns, he will exercise all form of precaution. He will also gather his clothes to prevent them from clinging onto the thorns. In the same way, this world is a place full of thorns and sins. A person must live his life with great care so that he will not cling onto the thorns of sin. This precaution is called Taqwa.
