Living separately from the husband for a considerable amount of time

Question:

Is it true that a woman is divorced if she lives separately from her husband for a considerable amount of time?

Answer:

Important points regarding Talaaq

Talaaq is a word that should not be used. However, if there is a dire need to, three Talaaq should not be given at once. Only one Talaaq should be given. The Nikah can be dissolved by one Talaaq also and this is sufficient to enable her to contract another Nikah elsewhere if she so wants. There is no need to give three Talaaq.

Allaamah Ibn Hajar Al-Asqalani and the question of three Talaaq in one go / at once

'According to the prevailing opinion, all the 3 Talaaq will be binding due to the consensus (Ijma) that took place at the time of Hazrat Umar (Radiyallahu Anhu). There is no one [whose name] can be mentioned, who opposed that at the time of Hazrat Umar (Radiyallahu Anhu). Thus, their consensus on that indicates the existence of an element that has abrogated the previous law although this remained unknown by some initially, until this became public for everyone during the time of Hazrat Umar (Radiyallahu Anhu).

Ta'leeq-ut-Talaaq

Ta'leeq-ut-Talaaq means making Talaaq conditional to a certain matter. For example, a man says to his wife:

"If you speak to such and such person, you are divorced once."
