Importance of Halaal Food

The creation of Insaan

Allah Ta’ala has granted existence to Insaan through the body and the Ruh (soul). The most important is the Ruh as a body without a Ruh will merely be a corpse although it may be very beautiful, robust and well-built.

Allah Ta’ala said:

Accepting invitation

A person has sent an invitation to one. He is a very good friend. That is why according to the principle; one should please him by accepting his invitation. Nonetheless, this invitation is not according to the Islamic principles. So, what should be done in such a situation? There is not much to do. It is very simple. One merely has to refrain from participating and refuse the invitation because first of all, one is a Muslim. One cannot displease Allah Ta’ala merely to please a person!

Hadith

If you trust Allah Ta’ala as He should be trusted, he will provide for you just as He provides for the birds that go out in the morning on an empty stomach and return in the evening with a full stomach. (Tirmizi/Ibn Majah)

Attending a feast without being invited

It is very ill-mannered for a person to attend a feast without being invited. At times, there is no food for those who have been invited. And this happens because people who were not invited have eaten. To eat at a place without invitation is like a thief who has stolen something and went away.

Accepting a Da’wat

It is not permissible to accept a Da’wat in a place where there is music, dancing or intermingling of men and women. It is true that it is Sunnah to accept an invitation. However, it remains Sunnah as long as there is no perpetration of Haraam in doing so. If this requires falling into Haraam, it no longer remains a Sunnah. We must refrain from it at all costs! Once, Rasulullah (Sallallaahu Alaihi Wasallam) had returned from a house where he was invited on seeing a picture in that house.

Principle concerning food

It is Farz to consume a quantity that keeps one alive. And it is also permissible to consume an amount that fills the stomach. However, it is Haraam to continue eating out of greed when the stomach is already full.

Consume Halaal!

Animals such as cow, billy-goat, goat or chicken are not permissible to consume as long as Zabah has not been performed. A Zabah that is valid and that renders the animal Halaal, is a Zabah that has been performed by a Muslim who has read Bismillah before slaughtering and he has cut all four veins that are found in the neck of that animal. If three veins have been cut instead of four, it is also valid. If a person is slaughtering several animals, he must read Bismillah on each animal that he is slaughtering.
