Taqleed-Mazhab

It is not something easy...

Before attacking someone, one always check one’s surroundings. One will never have the courage or audacity to say anything, if one sees that he is surrounded by 'bouncers' or those who have muscles, one will be afraid of the impacts and the serious consequences. How many such people are there on earth who prefer suffering instead of saying something so as not to aggravate the situation. A person will be perfectly right in keeping silent although he may be right. If someone is wrong, he has to be silent even more.

Should one follow an Imam such as Imam Abu Hanifah ...?

Question:

Should one follow an Imam such as Imam Abu Hanifah, Imam Malik, Imam Shafi'i and Imam Ahmad Bin Hambal (Rahimahumullah)? There is a group that is preventing one from following an Imam. What is your opinion about it?

Answer:

Yahya bin Said al-Qattaan (Rahmatullahi alayh)

Yahya Bin Said Al-Qattaan (Rahmatullahi alayh) was a prominent scholar of Deen of the second century (120-198 H). He was an expert and a professional in the field of Hadith. Imam Ahmad Bin Hambal (Rahimahullah) had great admiration for him. Imam Ahmad Bin Hambal (Rahimahullah) said: "I have never seen the like of Yahya Bin Said Al-Qattaan (Rahmatullahi alayh)."

An observation!

I thought that I could follow Deen on my own. I do not have to follow anyone. I know some English and French. Thus, there is no language problem. I can get the translation of the Qur'aan, Hadith and other resources in these languages. There is no need to follow anyone. But only afterwards did I realise that I was wrong. It is like a kite whose line was broken off from its owner and finally becomes a prey in the hands of children who tear it to pieces. It is quite like "out of the frying pan into the fire".

Twisted reasoning

We think that we are very clever. No one likes to be called stupid or short-minded. But in reality, our mind is twisted. However much we shall hide, this is a truth that cannot remain hidden. Do we want to follow good people such as the Sahabah-e-Kiraam (Radiyallahu Anhum) or the Fasiq and the Fajir who are violating the law of Allah Ta'ala night and day? Are we considering the Sahabah-e-Kiraam (Radiyallahu Anhum) as role models or are we adopting the style and fashion of those who do not have Deen?

Follow blindly

If you find someone who is very serious in Deen and who has got the opportunity and the honour to learn Deen under qualified Ustaad (teachers), then you must consider this a great favour from Allah Ta’ala.

Hunger, thirst and cure lie in the hand of Allah Ta’ala but Allah Ta’ala makes us use means such as food and medicine to meet our needs. Similarly, Hidayah is in the hands of Allah Ta’ala but Allah Ta’ala advises us to keep the company of our pious people in order to acquire it.
