Trouser above the ankle

Wearing trousers, pyjamas, Izaar or lungi above the ankles is the attire of a Muslim. According to the Hadith, to cover the ankles is a sign of pride and it is Haraam. Rasullullah (Sallallaahu Alaihi Wasallam) warned us against these clothing and he warned us of the unfavourable treatment that such a person will deserve in the Aakhirah. It is grave to cover the ankles with the trousers, even if it is done without the intention of pride. And if it is done out of pride, it is even more grave because it is a sign of pride to wear trousers that cover the ankles.

What will you reply?

If Nabi (Sallallaahu Alaihi Wasallam) asks you on the day of Qiyaamah, 'why did not you let your face resemble my face', what will you reply? If he asks you, 'what unpleasantness did you see in me that you did not imitate me and what pleasantness did you see in others to grow your hair and shave your beard like them', then, what reply will you have? Stop being stubborn and do not look for excuses. You are at fault and definitely you are at fault.

Covering of the ankle

A man should not cover his ankle while wearing his trousers or pyjamas. His ankle must be uncovered. In the same way, he should not wear such a Kurta (top?) or a Jubba that covers the ankle. This is the habit of the proud and having pride is haraam. Even just an atom's weight of pride is enough to prevent a person from being admitted into Jannah. Just as pride is forbidden and unlawful, things which are regarded as signs of pride should also be avoided. Covering the ankle with the trousers, pyjamas, Kurta or Jubba is a sign of pride.
